We’ve been here at the Alankar Cinema Building for quite some time now. SVP Road is always busy, so there is constant noise outside our doors. Most days, we are just focused on getting the steel orders ready. It’s not a fancy setup. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, and the desks are often piled high with papers and drawings. We spend a lot of time talking to the guys in the workshop area making sure the measurements are right because nobody likes a mistake that wastes material. People stop by looking for specific steel parts, and we do what we can to help them out. It’s a lot of back and forth with suppliers and trying to keep everything organized in a small space. Sometimes the power goes out or the traffic makes deliveries late, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We don’t have a big reception area or anything like that. You just walk in and find someone working. Most of us have been doing this for years, so we know the smell of metal and the sound of the saws pretty well. It’s hard work, and by the time evening rolls around, everyone is ready to head home. We just keep things moving day by day, trying to stay on top of the pile of work that never seems to get any smaller.
