Krishna Metal Works

If you go down I.B. Patel Road in Goregaon East, you’ll find Krishna Metal Works right across from Laghu Udyog Kendra. We’ve been in this same spot for a long time. It’s a bit of a cramped space with all the metal scraps and the heavy machinery we have shoved in there. We mostly spend our time cutting, welding, and grinding down parts for whoever needs them. The noise is something you just get used to after a week or so. It’s not the cleanest place in the world, there’s usually iron dust on everything and the smell of hot metal is always in the air. We aren't a big corporation with departments and managers. It’s just a few of us who know how to handle the tools. We take in the orders, look at the drawings, and try to make sense of what’s needed. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend half the morning fixing a belt or oiling the gears. That’s just part of the job. Goregaon is a busy hub, so there’s always people coming by asking for quick repairs. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here on the road. We open the shutters early and work until the light goes. It’s a basic living, but it keeps us busy and the work gets done.
