Our office is tucked away in 412, SYMCA HOSTEL on Lamington Road. If you know Mumbai, you know how loud and crowded Lamington Road and Grant Road can get. It is a constant buzz of people and traffic outside our windows. Inside, at Khimji Kunverji & Co. Chartered Accountants, we try to keep things a bit more orderly. Being in a hostel building is a bit unusual for an accounting firm, but it works for us. We have been in this area for a long time. The elevators can be a bit slow sometimes, so we end up waiting around talking about the cricket score or the weather. Most of our day is spent dealing with balance sheets and tax filings. It is the kind of work that requires a lot of patience. We have stacks of files that seem to grow on their own. The light in the office is okay, but we mostly focus on the papers in front of us. Grant Road station is close by, which is handy for everyone getting here. We don't put on any airs or graces. It’s a plain office with people who know their way around a tax form. You hear the horns honking from the street all day long, but you get used to it after a while. It’s just the sound of the city while we work through our daily tasks and help people with their numbers.
