Hashim Exim is based at No. 51 on Ibrahim Muhammed Merchant Road in the Khadak area. If you know this part of town, you know it’s always crowded and there’s always something happening on the street. Our office is tucked away in one of the older buildings where the walls are thick and the hallways are a bit narrow. We’ve been here for years, dealing with all the goods coming in and out. There’s usually a stack of boxes near the door because we’re constantly packing things up for shipping. It’s a bit dusty sometimes, and the fan in the corner makes a clicking sound that we’ve all just learned to ignore. We don't have a big reception desk or anything like that. You just walk in and someone will be there at a desk covered in ledgers and receipts. We handle the export side of things mostly, which means a lot of late-night calls to people in different time zones. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep going. The neighbors are mostly other small businesses, so we all know each other. It’s a tight-knit spot. Sometimes the logistics get complicated and we have to spend hours on the phone with the docks, but that’s just how it goes in this line of work. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not, just a local team doing our jobs and making sure the crates get moved out on schedule. It is a noisy but honest living.
