Kendriya Vidyalaya, Koliwada

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Koliwada is tucked into Section 1 of the Cgs Colony in Kane Nagar, Antop Hill. This area is a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it, filled with these large housing blocks for government staff. The school is right in the middle of it all. It’s a bit of a trek to get here from the nearest station, so most of us are used to long walks or taking the bus through the narrow streets. The school building itself is older and has that functional look that all these government schools have. We have a lot of kids from the colony, so everyone kind of knows each other's business. The playground is mostly dirt and gets quite dusty in the summer, but the kids don't seem to mind when they’re playing football or cricket. Our teachers spend a lot of time in the staff room, which is usually cluttered with registers and lunch boxes. We don't have any high-tech gadgets or fancy lounges. It’s just rows of benches, blackboards, and a lot of textbooks. We focus on the basics and making sure the students are prepared for their tests. Sometimes the monkeys from the nearby hills come down and hang out on the rooftops, which causes a bit of a distraction. It’s just a normal, everyday school in a quiet corner of Mumbai where we do our best with what we have.
