Shyam Metal Ltd

Our business is right on SS Maharaj Marg in the middle of Chor Bazaar. It is a very famous part of town and it is always crowded. Kamathipura is just nearby, so there is never a quiet moment. We deal with metal, so our shop is full of heavy bits and pieces. There is iron, copper, and all sorts of things stacked up. The walls are a bit dark from years of dust and metal work. We have a big scale for weighing the scrap and it gets a lot of use every single day. The street outside is narrow and full of handcarts and scooters. You have to be careful when you are walking so you don't get hit. We spend a lot of time shouting over the noise of the traffic to talk to our customers. It is a rough and ready kind of place. We don't have any fancy chairs, just some wooden stools that have been here forever. We drink a lot of water because it gets very hot in the shop. Sometimes we just stand at the doorway and watch the people go by. It is a lot of hard work lifting the heavy metal, but we are used to it by now. We don't really use computers much; we mostly write things down in big ledger books. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us in the bazaar.
