If you want to find Shri Khemisati Exims Pvt. Ltd., you have to brave the crowds of Kalbadevi Road. Our office is at number 325, right on the first floor. You have to walk up these old, creaky wooden stairs that have been there for probably fifty years. The whole building has that smell of old wood and incense. Kalbadevi is a place where you can barely move because of all the handcarts and people, but once you get up to the first floor, it is a little more manageable. Our office is packed with files and boxes. We do not have a lot of space, so we have to be very careful about where we put things. It is a very traditional setup. We have a few desks where we handle all our exim work. There is always someone coming in or out with a delivery or a piece of paper that needs a signature. The ceiling fans are always on, humming in the background while we talk on the phone. It can get very loud outside with all the shouting from the market below, but we have lived with it for so long that we barely notice it anymore. We drink a lot of chai during the day to keep ourselves going. There is no such thing as a quiet day here. It is just the way this part of Mumbai works. We do not have any fancy carpet or glass walls, just a solid place to do our daily business.
