Kala Shringar

Our shop is tucked away on the first floor of a building in Sadashiv Peth, right near the Masjid. It is Room Number 17. If you are looking for the BMC Press, we are just opposite that. It is a bit of a walk up the stairs, but once you get here, it’s quiet. Kala Shringar has been in this spot for years. We deal mostly in things for women, like bangles, hair accessories, and small items for dressing up. The shelves are packed with boxes, and sometimes it is hard to find exactly what you want right away, but we know where everything is. The lighting isn't the brightest, but it works for seeing the colors of the thread or the stones. Many people come by before weddings or festivals to pick up stuff they forgot. It is a small room, so if there are more than four customers, it feels very full. We don’t have any big signs outside, just the name. Most people find us because their mothers or aunts told them about the shop. It is a traditional place. We sit here from morning until evening, chatting with the regulars who live in the building or nearby. It isn't a modern mall experience, but it is honest and we have been part of the neighborhood for a long time. There is a lot of history in these small streets and we are glad to be here.
