Our space at 303, New Udyog Mandir 2 on Mogal Lane is tucked away in a part of Mahim that most people just drive past. It’s an old industrial building, and the elevator sometimes has a mind of its own, so we often just take the stairs. Kala Kruti Kendra is where we spend the bulk of our week, surrounded by paints, fabrics, and various tools that have seen better days. It isn't a gallery or a showroom; it is a working studio where things get messy very quickly. We have a small kitchen corner where the kettle is almost always on because we drink way too much tea while we work. The light coming through the windows isn't great in the morning, but it gets better by midday. We started this because we liked making things with our hands, and it stayed that way. There are usually three or four of us here at any given time, hunched over tables or sitting on the floor to get the right angle on a piece. Mahim is a lively area, and you can hear the street noise even on the third floor. We don't really do big advertising or have a corporate strategy. People find us through word of mouth or by just wandering into the building looking for something else. It is a quiet, steady life where the focus is just on the next project in front of us.
