We have been at 37 Haji Chawl for quite some time now. Madanpura is always crowded, and our spot on Umar Rajab Road is no different. K K Bags is basically just us working hard every day to get things done. It is noisy outside with all the traffic in Nagpada, but inside we just focus on the machines. Some days the thread bunches up and it gets frustrating, but that is just part of the job. We started small and stayed that way because it works for us. The shop isn't fancy. There are bags piled up in corners and scraps of fabric on the floor by evening. We don't have a big team or a fancy office. It’s just a local place where we handle everything ourselves. Sometimes the rain leaks a bit near the door when it pours in Mumbai, but we manage. People stop by to ask directions or just to see what we are making. We don't do much talking, mostly just stitching. The lights are a bit dim in the back, yet we know where everything is kept. You get used to the smell of new material after a while. It’s a lot of manual work, sitting on stools for hours. Our hands get tired, but the orders need to go out. That is how it goes here in Nagpada. We just keep our heads down and keep the machines running. It isn't a glamorous life, but it is a living for us.
