Our work happens at Gala No E 2 in Udyog Sadan No 2. This is situated in Andheri East along the Hazira Road. It is an industrial area, so don’t expect anything pretty. The building is made of concrete and the halls always smell a bit like oil and old metal. We spend our hours inside the gala dealing with the machines and the daily orders. It is a loud environment because of the other units nearby. You can hear the banging of metal and the sound of heavy engines all through the day. We don't have fancy office chairs or air conditioning that works all the time. It is a practical space for practical work. The traffic on Hazira Road is usually backed up by four in the afternoon, so we try to get our deliveries out early if we can. Most of the people we see are other workers from the nearby galas or truck drivers looking for directions. We have a small desk near the front where we keep the ledger and the phone. It’s not the kind of place where you come to sit and have a chat. We are here to get the jobs finished. The walls are a bit stained and the floor is rough, but it works for what we do. It’s just a standard industrial unit in Andheri.
