Being located at 3, 76/B, Ayambil Bhuvan on Daftari Road means we are right in the thick of it in Malad East. Jivraj Tea Ltd has been operating from this spot, and you can usually tell we are here just by the faint smell of tea leaves that seems to hang around the hallway. The building, Ayambil Bhuvan, is one of those older structures that has a lot of character, even if the stairs are a bit narrow and the lift is sometimes temperamental. Daftari Road is always crowded with people walking to the station or rickshaws trying to squeeze past each other. It’s a noisy spot, but it feels alive. Inside, it’s mostly just the sound of phones and the rustle of packets. We don’t have much in the way of fancy decorations, just the essentials to keep things moving along. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the window during the heavy monsoons, so we just move the chairs and keep going. It’s the kind of place where you know your neighbors and the local chai wallah brings the morning round without even being asked. We’ve been here long enough that the walls feel familiar, almost like a second home, though a very busy and cluttered one. It’s just how a business in this part of Mumbai feels, constant movement and not much time for standing around looking polished.
