Jak Exim

Jak Exim is tucked away inside the Maharaja Apartments, right across the road from the big telephone exchange on S.V. Road. If you know Malad West, you already know how hectic this stretch of road gets during the day. We are in units 31 and 32 on one of the lower floors. It is a bit of a walk up the stairs sometimes, but we have been here long enough that the security guards don't even bother asking for our ID anymore. The office is basically just a few old desks, some computers, and a lot of metal filing cabinets that have seen better days. We deal with all the shipping and trade stuff, so there is always someone on the phone or typing away at a ledger. The noise from the traffic on S.V. Road is basically background music for us now. Sometimes the elevator in the apartments acts up, so we end up taking the stairs more than we would like. It is a lived-in space, not some glass-walled box. We drink way too much chai during the afternoon to keep going. Sometimes deliveries arrive late because of the monsoon rains or a truck getting stuck in the narrow lane outside, and we just have to deal with it. It is a small team here, maybe just four or five of us on a normal day. We don't have a big sign, just a small plaque by the door.
