Indo Steel Corporation

Indo Steel Corporation is tucked into 148 Sarang Street, right across from the old Crawford Market. This area is one of the most crowded spots you can find, and our shop is right in the thick of it. Steel is a heavy business, so our floors have plenty of marks and the air has that metallic tang to it. We don't have a lot of space, so we have to be really organized with how we stack the stock. Most of the time, the shop is full of samples and ledgers and the sound of the street coming through the open door. Parking a vehicle anywhere near here is almost impossible, so we are used to seeing people arrive on foot or by rickshaw. We have been at this location for a long time, watching the market change around us while we pretty much keep doing the same thing. It is a lot of hard work, especially in the humid months when the shop gets stuffy, but the fans keep things moving. We aren't big on fancy meetings; usually, we just talk over the counter or over a quick cup of chai. It’s a very traditional way of doing business where your word matters and you know your customers by sight. Every morning we roll up the shutter and start again, just like everyone else on Sarang Street has done for years.
