Our place in Malad East is tucked away in Block No 2 of Jai Ambe Niwas, near the Manc area on NC Kelkar Road. It is an area where residential buildings and small workshops live side by side, so you always have that mix of domestic life and industrial noise. Being in the casting business means we deal with a lot of heat and heavy molds, and the air in the shop usually smells a bit like hot metal and sand. It is not the kind of place where you would want to wear your best clothes, as everything eventually gets covered in a fine layer of dust. We have been working out of this spot for a while, and we have gotten used to the rhythm of the machines and the constant hum of the city outside. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time getting into the lane because of the parked cars and the rickshaws, but we always manage to make it work somehow. We don't have a fancy lobby or a receptionist; you just walk in and find us near the back where the actual work happens. The floor is concrete and a bit cracked in places, but it holds up under the weight of the equipment. We take things one job at a time, making sure the metal flows right and the shapes come out like they are supposed to. It is gritty, tiring work, but there is something satisfying about seeing a finished piece after it has cooled down.
