Ikan Impex is located at 101, Rehaman House, on Nadirsha Sukhia Street in the Fort area. This part of the city is always crowded and full of energy. The building itself, Rehaman House, has a lot of history to it. You can see it in the architecture and the old staircases. Our office is on the first floor. It’s a busy place with people coming and going all the time. Being in Fort means we are right in the middle of everything. We can hear the taxis honking and the crowds on the street from our windows. The street is quite narrow, so it’s always a bit of a squeeze for the trucks to get through. We spend our days managing the flow of goods. There is a lot of paperwork involved in what we do. We have desks covered in files and stamps. The air inside always smells a bit like old paper and ink. We don’t have much in the way of modern decor. It’s more about functionality here. We have a small pantry where we make coffee. Most of our neighbors in the building have been there for decades too. It feels like a small village inside a big city. We just keep our heads down and get the work finished. When it’s time to go home, we join the mass of people heading to the station. It is a long day but we like the area and the people here.
