Hindustan Stainless

Down at 20/21 on the 13th Khetwadi Lane in Guregaon, you’ll find the home of Hindustan Stainless. It’s one of those narrow Mumbai lanes where you really have to know where you’re going or you’ll miss the entrance entirely. The building is older and has a lot of character, which basically means it has seen its fair share of use. But for us, it’s a perfect spot to keep things moving. We have our inventory and our small workspace all tucked in together. It gets quite hot and stuffy in the afternoons, especially during the summer, but we have the fans going full blast to keep the air moving. Most of the day is spent talking to people who come by or checking the stock of stainless items we have on hand. It’s a very hands-on kind of job. We don’t wear fancy suits or anything like that here. It’s mostly just shirts with the sleeves rolled up. The 13th lane is always crowded with handcarts and motorcycles, so getting deliveries in can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. We’ve learned to time things just right. We’ve been here in Guregaon for a long time, and we’ve seen the shops around us change names, but we just keep doing our thing at number 20/21. It’s a plain, honest business. There aren't any big mission statements on the walls, just calendars and maybe a few notes scribbled on the desks.
