Hemant Steel Centre

Located over in Kurla East at 18/3/7 C, Hemant Steel Centre is a pretty straightforward operation. We deal with a lot of metal, so the shop is usually full of the sound of clanging steel and the smell of iron. It is not the cleanest place in the world because of all the dust and the nature of the material, but we keep it functional. We have stacks of steel plates and rods that take up most of the floor space, so you have to watch your step when you walk in. Kurla can be a really crowded area to work in, especially with the trucks coming in and out to move the heavier loads. We spend a lot of time measuring things and cutting them down to size for whatever someone needs. It’s heavy work and it definitely keeps you in shape. Most of our customers are people who have been coming to us for years because they know where to find us in the lane. We don't use any fancy computer systems for every little thing; we still do a lot of it by hand and with old-fashioned tools. The shop stays open late most days because there is always one more piece that needs to be moved or sorted. It is just a regular local business doing what it does best with steel and we like it that way.
