Hardware Mart

Hardware Mart is over at 323 in the Lower Parel area, specifically in Gota Gam. This part of the city has changed a lot with all the new buildings, but our little corner still feels the same as it always has. The shop is packed with all kinds of hardware items like tools, nails, and plumbing supplies. It is a bit of a squeeze inside because we try to keep a lot of stock on hand for whenever someone needs a specific part for a repair. We spend a lot of our morning moving things around and dusting off the shelves, though it feels like the dust always comes back by the afternoon. People from around the neighborhood come in looking for bits and pieces to fix things at home. We spend a lot of time searching through bins to find exactly the right size of screw or a particular fitting. The noise from the street is constant, with rickshaws and delivery vans trying to navigate the narrow lanes of Gota Gam. We have a small desk in the back where we keep our accounts, and the overhead fan keeps things somewhat cool when it gets humid. It is manual work, and our hands are usually a bit dirty by the end of the shift. It is a straightforward business, and we have been serving the people around here for many years without much change in how we do things.
