Gridharilal Agrawal & Co. operates out of the third floor of the Vikas building right on Bank Street in the Fort area. This part of the city has so much history, and you can feel it in the old walls of our office. Getting up to the third floor is part of our daily routine, and we have gotten used to the rhythm of this neighborhood over the years. Fort is always buzzing with people from the banks and other offices nearby, so there is never a quiet moment outside. Inside our room, number 302, it is mostly just us handling accounts and managing the trade side of things. We aren't trying to be the biggest name out there, just trying to do our job right and keep our records straight. The space is filled with files and the sound of the old ceiling fan. Sometimes the traffic downstairs gets loud, especially when the trucks are trying to move through the narrow streets, but that is just Mumbai for you. We see a lot of the same faces coming in for business, people we have known for a long time. It is a simple setup without any modern bells and whistles. We prefer it that way because it keeps things practical. Every morning we open up, have some tea, and start looking at what needs to be shipped or billed. It is steady work in a part of town that never really sleeps.
