Golden Steel Centre

We are tucked away in Girgaon at 1/123. If you know this part of town, you know it is crowded and narrow. The Golden Steel Centre has been sitting here for a bit. It’s mostly just stacks of metal and the sound of things being moved around. It gets dusty, and the air smells like iron most mornings. We open up early because that is when the trucks can actually get through the streets before everything gets blocked up. Our neighbors are all doing similar work or running small shops. It is not the kind of place you come for a quiet chat. There is always a hammer hitting something or a saw going somewhere nearby. We keep our records in old ledgers and try to stay on top of the orders. The building is old, you can see it in the walls and the way the doors creak. We don't have a big sign or anything. Most people find us because they have been coming here for years. It is honest work. Sometimes we sit out front when it is quiet, but that doesn’t happen often. My hands are usually dirty by noon. We just handle the steel and make sure people get what they asked for. It is simple. No big speeches about it. Girgaon is a tough place to work but it is home for the business. We take a lunch break at one and the shop stays open until the sun goes down. It's just metal and hard work.
