Globe Steel Center

Our shop is tucked away at Shop No 15 B on Kharwa Lane, which is off Maul Grant Road and Tank Road. We’re right opposite Akber Peerbhoy College, so we see a lot of students walking by every day. Grant Road is a very specific kind of place in Mumbai—it’s busy, crowded, and there is steel and metal everywhere you look. We deal with a lot of heavy items, so the shop is more of a warehouse feel than a retail store. There are stacks of metal and various bits of steel all over. It’s a bit of a maze inside, but we know where everything is kept. The street outside is narrow, and getting deliveries in and out can be a real headache sometimes with the traffic. We’ve been here for a while, and we know most of the other shopkeepers on the lane. It’s a lot of manual work, moving stock around and talking to customers who know exactly what they’re looking for. We don't bother with fancy displays or much decoration. The shop is about the materials we have. Some days it’s quiet enough to hear the college bells, and other days the noise of the trucks is all you can hear. We just open up, do our work, and try to keep things organized in a place that’s naturally a bit messy. It is a straightforward business, and we like the community around Grant Road.
