Globe Star Bags

The shop is tucked away in Dharavi, right near the Shidhivinayak building. We spend most of our days here at Globe Star Bags working on different kinds of carriers. It’s located in D-12 Savitri Bai Chawl, which is a busy area where everyone knows each other. We have been stitching bags in this small space for quite a long time now. The noise from the street is always there, but we just get used to it after a while. Most of our tools are older models but they get the job done well enough. We don’t really have a big sign or anything flashy outside. People usually find us by asking around or looking for the landmark nearby. It’s a practical setup with rolls of fabric and thread everywhere you look. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped when we have a big order to finish, but we manage. My cousin helps me with the cutting while I handle the sewing machines. We make things that people actually use every day for work or school. It’s not a fancy business, just a local workshop where we put in the hours. When the monsoon hits, we have to be careful with the stock so it doesn’t get damp. Living and working in this part of Mumbai means you learn to be quick. We don't spend time on fancy talk, just on making sure the seams are strong. Usually, we stay open until the sun goes down and then some.
