Glis is right on Kumbharwada Road in Dharavi, specifically at A 1 314. If you know Mumbai, you know this part of the city is always moving and there’s never a moment of silence. Our spot is tucked in among many others, and we’ve been part of this neighborhood for a while. The address 400017 is one we write out a lot. The space we have is tight, like most places around here, so we have to be smart about where we put things. We deal with a lot of people coming in and out throughout the day. It’s often hot, and the hum of the street outside is just part of the background noise we don’t even notice anymore. We have a few chairs for visitors and a sturdy table where most of the work happens. It’s not a place for fancy furniture or quiet contemplation. We just handle what needs doing and keep moving. Sometimes the rain makes things a bit difficult during the monsoon, but we’ve got a system for keeping everything dry. Everyone around Kumbharwada Road knows each other, so there’s always someone stopping by for a quick word. It’s a busy life here in Maharashtra, but it suits the way we work. We don't have a big corporate structure, just a few of us making sure the daily tasks are finished before we head home. We usually keep a small fan pointed right at the main desk to stay cool during the day.
