We ended up taking over Shop No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 in the Shivneri Apartment building because we needed the extra space for all the metal we carry. Being on Mughbhat Lane in Girgaum means we are right in an old part of the city where the streets are narrow and full of history. Indigo Metalloys Private Limited is basically a warehouse and a sales office rolled into one. You will see stacks of copper, brass, and other alloys leaning against the walls. It is heavy work moving these things around, so we are all a bit tired by the end of the day. The building itself is an older style apartment block, which gives the shop a bit of character that you do not find in new places. We do not have air conditioning in the main storage area, so it gets quite humid, especially during the monsoon season when the dampness hangs in the air. We spend our time weighing materials and cutting them down to the sizes that people ask for. There is no script for how we talk to customers; we just speak normally and try to be helpful. We have been here for a long time and the neighbors know us well. It is a very grounded way of doing business without any of the fluff you see in big city companies. We just handle the metal and make sure the weights are correct.
