Walking into Ghetto Pub on Warden Road feels like stepping away from the city for a bit. It’s tucked away at Daali Ali 30-B and it has been there through a lot of changes in the neighborhood. The walls are covered in all sorts of scribbles and drawings from people who have visited over the years. It’s dark inside even when the sun is bright outside. I usually spend the first hour of my shift just checking the bottles and making sure the stools are all straight. The floor has a bit of a character to it, maybe a little sticky in places, but that’s just how an old pub should be. We don’t have fancy lights or any of that new stuff. Just some old lamps and the glow from the neon signs. People come here because they know what to expect. It’s a place to sit down and talk without having to shout over too much noise. The music is usually just something we like playing. Sometimes a lightbulb goes out and it takes us a few days to find the ladder to fix it. That’s just the way things go here. We aren't trying to be the most modern spot in Mumbai. We just want to be the place where you can relax on a Tuesday night. Warden Road keeps getting busier but inside these walls, things stay pretty much the same. It's just home for us.
