Geeta Shipping & Clearing Services is tucked away at 3, Nandadeep, right in the Tarun Bharat area of Chakala. It is one of those places where the desks are always covered in stacks of papers and someone is always on the phone. We spend our days dealing with customs and clearing work, which mostly means a lot of patience. The office isn't very large but we make it work. Outside, the street is always noisy with the usual Mumbai traffic and people rushing to the metro station nearby. We have been here for a good while and have seen the shops around us change names and owners. Inside, it's mostly the same few of us. We keep a kettle for tea because the days can get pretty long when shipments are delayed. There’s a particular way we file things that only we really understand. It’s not a fancy corporate setup with glass walls. It’s more about getting the job done and making sure the documents are signed. Sometimes the heat in the afternoon gets a bit much, but the old fan still works fine. We know the neighbors and the courier guys pretty well. Most of our time goes into checking forms and making sure the cargo doesn't get stuck. It’s a bit of a grind, but it’s what we know how to do. We don’t have a big sign outside, just enough so people can find us in Nandadeep. It is just us here every day.
