We work out of Flat No 7 on the second floor of Nagin Mahal. It’s an old, characterful building at 82, Veer Nariman Road, right in the Churchgate area. If you know South Mumbai, you know how these buildings have a specific kind of charm and history to them. Food And Beverages News is basically a group of us sitting in these high-ceilinged rooms writing and talking about the industry. The windows look out toward the street, and we can hear the hum of the city all day long. Churchgate is such a fast-paced place, but our office feels a bit like stepping back in time. We don't have a modern, glass-and-steel setup. Our desks are cluttered with magazines and notes. It’s a bit messy, but that’s how we work best. We cover stories about what people are eating and drinking, which is interesting but also a lot of hard work. We aren't trying to be the biggest media house out there; we just want to get the facts right and just put the details down on paper to get the next issue out on time. Being so close to the station means there is always a crowd outside, and we often grab tea from the vendors nearby. It’s a real, living part of Mumbai, and we are just happy to have a small spot in it. It gets quite breezy in the evenings, which is nice when we are finishing up.
