We’ve been here in Sewree West at Mandapura for quite a long time now. Fine Forge started out because we really knew how to work with metal and there was a need for it in the neighborhood. It’s dusty and loud most days in the shop, but that is just how the work goes. People usually come by when they need something specific made or just fixed up. We spend a lot of our hours at the anvil or hanging around the furnace. It gets pretty hot in the summer months, especially in this part of town where the air doesn't move much. My father actually taught me most of what I know about forging years ago. We don't have a fancy front office or anything like that. Just the tools, the heavy workbench, and the machines we use every day. Usually, there is a pile of metal scrap in the corner waiting to be recycled or used for something else later on. We mostly deal with local orders from people around the area. It’s steady enough work to keep us busy. Sometimes we lose track of time when a particular job gets a bit tricky or the metal isn't cooperating. If you happen to walk past the shop, you will definitely hear the hammering. We keep the doors open mostly for the breeze. It isn’t a massive operation, just a few of us here getting things done. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
