Feroz Polishing Work

Our shop is at G-1 in Shiva Seth Chal. If you know Vikhroli East, you know it's a tight-knit place with a lot of small businesses squeezed together. We do polishing work here, mostly on metal parts that come in looking dull. It is a messy job, honestly. By the end of the shift, our clothes are covered in grey dust and our hands are stained. The chawl is always lively, with neighbors talking and kids playing nearby. We have been in this same spot for years. The space isn't big, so we have to be careful where we put things so we don't trip. We use various wheels and compounds to get the finish right. It takes a lot of patience and a steady hand. Sometimes the machines act up, and we have to spend an hour fixing a belt or cleaning out the vents. We don't have a big sign or any bright lights. Most people find us through word of mouth or because they live nearby. We start early when it’s still a bit cool outside because the shop gets very hot once the motors are running for a few hours. We usually take a break in the afternoon for some tea from the stall at the corner. It's hard work, but there is something nice about seeing a piece of metal start to shine after you’ve worked on it for a while.
