Famous Steel Corporation

Our office is located at Number 18 in Chhota Sonapur, right on Maulana Shaukat Ali Road. Famous Steel Corporation has been part of this Grant Road and Bhaykhala area for a long time. If you know Mumbai, you know how these streets get. It’s narrow, it’s noisy, and there is always something happening. We deal with steel, mostly just regular stock that people need for building or repairs. The shop isn't much to look at, just a place where we keep our books and talk to customers who drop in. Dealing with steel is heavy, dirty work. We end up with a lot of rust on our hands by the end of the shift. The weather doesn't help much, especially when it’s humid and the metal gets slick. We’ve got neighbors who have been here as long as we have. It feels like a small community even though it’s such a massive city. We don't do much marketing or anything like that. Most people find us because they’re already in the neighborhood looking for materials. We just try to keep enough stock so we don’t have to tell someone to come back next week. It’s a lot of phone calls and checking prices. Sometimes the trucks can’t even get down the street because it’s so blocked up. We just make it work one day at a time, keeping the metal moving and the records straight as best as we can.
