We've been here on SV Road in Malad West for quite a while now. Most people around the neighborhood know the spot, right near number 8. It’s just a small shop where we keep different kinds of batteries for cars, bikes, and those big ones for homes when the power goes out. Dealing with batteries is messy sometimes. You get acid on your hands or you're lifting heavy things all day. But that's just how the work is. My father started things here and I just sort of took over when I got older. We don't have fancy lights or a big showroom. It’s just rows of shelves with black boxes and cables. Sometimes the traffic on SV Road is so loud you can barely hear the customers, but we manage. People come in when their car won't start in the morning and they look really stressed. I try to get them sorted so they can get to work. It's not a complicated business. We check the old battery, see if it can be charged, or if it's just dead. If it's dead, we swap it out for a new one. I spend a lot of time sitting on a small wooden stool waiting for the next person to walk in. Sometimes friends stop by for tea and we just talk about the weather or how Malad is changing. It feels like more buildings are going up every month. We just stay here doing our thing.
