Working out of Room 11 in Chawl 154 at Fitwala Compound is a real Mumbai experience. If you know Kurla West, you know how Pipe Road is always humming with people and vehicles. We are tucked away in this compound, and it is a tight fit but we make it work every single day. Dr. Shahnawaz’s name is what most people look for when they are trying to find our specific corner. The room is small, just enough space for our equipment and a couple of chairs for us to sit on. It gets hot in the afternoons, so the ceiling fan is always on its highest setting. You can hear the neighbors going about their lives, children playing outside, and the constant city noise that never really stops. We don’t have a big lobby or a receptionist. If someone needs us, they just walk up to the door and knock. We spend our time managing the daily load of work that comes in, often staying late when the weather is nice enough to keep the door open to the air. It is a humble setup, but it is our home base. We have our files stacked in the corner and the walls are covered with notes we’ve scribbled to ourselves over the months. It is just a regular local business trying to keep things going in the heart of Kurla, and we don't need much more than that to get through the day.
