Our spot in Kakad Industrial Estate is usually busy. It is right near the Sitladevi Temple, so you hear the bells sometimes. Matunga Road is always crowded with trucks. Inside, it smells like grease and metal. We handle all sorts of industrial tools. Most of the stuff is heavy and comes in wooden crates. We spend a lot of time unboxing things and checking the counts. It is not a showroom. It is more of a workspace where things are stacked up. The ceiling is a bit low in the back. Sometimes the light flickers, but we know where everything is kept. Mechanics and factory workers come in looking for specific bits or wrenches. We have a lot of drill sets too. It gets humid here in Mumbai, especially in this part of town. We just keep the shutters up and work through the orders. Most people who come here know exactly what they want, so there isn’t much talking needed. We just find the item, check the price, and move on to the next thing. It has been this way for years. The tea stall nearby brings over chai twice a day. That is the highlight. We don’t do much online stuff, mostly just face-to-face business with the guys from the other units in the estate. It is a solid routine that keeps us going every day without much fuss or bother.
