We’re up on the first floor of the Kherawala Building. It’s a bit of a confusing address because it's part of the Ankur Flats on Narannagar Society Road in Kalbadevi. If you’ve ever been to Kalbadevi, you know how cramped the streets can get. Our building is right in the thick of it. The stairs are a bit narrow, so bringing up large equipment can be a real challenge sometimes. We’ve had to get creative with ropes a few times. Inside, the space is divided into a small office and a storage area where we keep the solar kits. It’s a busy atmosphere with the sounds of the street coming through the open windows. We don’t use air conditioning much; we just prefer the breeze when there is one. We spend our days answering questions from people in the society and the surrounding buildings about how to save on their electric bills. It’s a very practical sort of job. We have stacks of paperwork on the desks and a lot of different components spread out on the floor. It’s not the most organized place, but we get things done. Being in a residential society like this means we know our neighbors well. We often end up helping out with small electrical fixes even if it’s not strictly our job. That’s just how it is living and working in Kalbadevi.
