If you ever find yourself walking down Surat Street in Masjid Bunder, you might see the Chheda Bhavan building. We are up on the fourth floor in room 404. Emjay Eximp has been operating from here for a long time. This part of Mumbai is always packed with people carrying sacks and carts being pushed through the narrow lanes. It is a very busy atmosphere and you have to be quick on your feet. Our office is fairly small but it is packed with ledgers and files from over the years. We do a lot of back-and-forth communication with different people for our import and export work. It’s not a quiet job. There is always someone shouting or a horn honking outside the window. We just try to stay organized among all the chaos. We aren't big on fancy decorations or anything. The walls are a bit stained and the floor is worn down from all the walking, but it has a lot of history. We usually have a lot of tea throughout the day to keep us going. It is the kind of place where you know your neighbors and the tea stall guy knows exactly what you want. We just keep our heads down and try to make sure the containers are where they need to be. It is a tough area to work in sometimes because of the crowd, but we wouldn't be anywhere else. It is just real life for us here.
