If you walk down Bora Bazar Street in the Fort area, you’ll find Daya House. We are up on the first floor at number 120. It’s one of those old Mumbai buildings with the narrow stairs that make you watch your step. The office isn't very large, but we’ve managed to fit everyone in. Being so close to the port and the old commercial hub makes sense for shipping. We spend most of the day dealing with customs papers and tracking containers. It’s a lot of back and forth with the docks. The air in here always feels a bit heavy with the sea breeze and the city humidity. We have big files everywhere because the paperwork for ships never seems to end. During the monsoon, we have to be extra careful about the windows because the rain comes in sideways and soaks the desks. Lunchtime is when everyone brings out their tiffin boxes and the whole place smells like home cooking for a while. We’ve been operating from this same spot for a long time. The street outside is always crowded with vendors and people rushing to the station. It’s a bit chaotic, but it’s the kind of chaos we’re used to after all these years. We just keep our heads down and make sure the cargo moves through the system without too many delays.
