Densil Sorris

I’m Densil and I operate out of Room Number 14 in Building Number 2 at the Matunga Labour Camp in Mumbai. It’s a very grounded place to be. This isn't a high-rise office with a view of the ocean. It’s a small room in a busy colony where everyone knows everyone else’s business. I’ve been here since 1960, or at least the building has. It’s got a lot of history and you can feel it in the walls. My workspace is tight, but I’ve organized it so I have everything within reach. I do most of the work myself. Sometimes it gets loud outside with people talking or kids playing, but that’s just life in Matunga. I don’t go in for fancy titles or corporate talk. I’m just a guy doing a job. I’ve lived in Mumbai all my life and I like the pace of things here. You have to be quick but also patient. I usually have the radio on in the background while I work. It keeps me company. I don't have a big website or a lot of bells and whistles. If you need me, you usually just come to the door and knock. It’s a very old-fashioned way of doing business, but I think people appreciate the honesty of it. I’m usually here from morning until the sun goes down, just handling things one by one.
