We are based on Nagdevi Street in the Masjid area, right on the first floor of building 138. If you know Nagdevi Street, you know it is the heart of the hardware and tools market in Mumbai. The lanes are narrow and always filled with handcarts, laborers, and shoppers looking for specific parts. Our office is up a narrow flight of stairs. It is an old building, like most of them in this neighborhood, and it has a lot of character. We spend our time managing shipments and talking to traders. The air smells like metal and old wood around here. It is a very loud and energetic place to work. We have been here for a long time and we are used to the chaos of the market outside. Our desks are old and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for what we do. We don't have a lot of space, so we have to be smart about where we put everything. Most of the business happens over the phone or with people who have been coming to this street for decades. We drink a lot of tea to stay focused throughout the day. It is a gritty, hardworking part of the city, and we are just one of the many small businesses making it go. It takes a while to get used to the noise but after a few years you don't even notice the shouting and the carts anymore.
