Down here at 4 Carnac Bunder, things get pretty hectic early in the morning. Being on P D Melo Road means we see all the heavy trucks coming from the docks and it never really stops. The Manyar Building is where we keep our office, and it’s one of those old-school places that has seen a lot of years. We mostly deal in iron and steel supplies, which is a heavy, dirty kind of job, but someone has to do it. You won’t find any fancy showrooms here. It’s mostly just us at the desks, phones ringing, and checking the inventory lists. Sandhurst Road is right there too, so the train noise is just part of the background. Sometimes we sit out front when it’s a bit slow, just watching the traffic crawl by toward the port. The dust is a constant thing because of all the construction and the trucks, so we’re always cleaning the tables. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s what we know. We’ve been in this spot for a long time now, and we know the neighborhood like the back of our hand. If you’re looking for us, you just look for the building near the corner. Most days it’s just the same routine of handling orders and making sure the loaders are doing their bit. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we have a couple of fans that keep the air moving enough to get through the day.
