We operate Chauhan Forging out of 51 Mazgaon, right near Nehru Park. It’s a bit of an industrial area, which makes sense for the kind of work we do here. The neighborhood has changed over the years, but we’ve stayed put in this same spot. Being near the park gives us a bit of a landmark to tell people when they are trying to find us. The shop floor is usually loud with the sound of machinery and work being done. We don’t have a fancy office; it’s mostly just the space where the actual forging happens. There’s a lot of dust and the smell of metal, which is just part of the job. We keep our tools organized as best as we can, though it gets messy when we are in the middle of a big project. A few of us have been working together here for a long time, so we have a routine down. We don’t really spend much on advertising or anything like that. People in the trade know where we are and what we do. It’s a straightforward business. We take an order, we work the metal, and we get it ready for pickup. It’s physical work and it can be tiring, but it’s what we know. We just keep our heads down and try to produce solid work every single day without any fuss or complicated processes. It’s a hard way to earn a living but it’s honest and it works for us.
