Our branch is located in Room A/5 of the Ramkutti Chawl on Gavdevi Road. This is Bhandup West, so it is a very busy and lively part of Mumbai. Working out of a chawl is different from those big glass bank buildings downtown. It’s a small space, and we are right there on the ground with the local community. You can hear the neighbors and the street vendors all day long. We handle the basic banking stuff, like helping people with their accounts or managing paperwork. It gets quite crowded in the small room during the first week of the month when everyone comes in at once. We don't have a lot of space for fancy furniture, so we just have the essentials. There is a lot of paper moving around and the sound of the stamping machine is constant. Bhandup is a hardworking neighborhood, and our office reflects that. We just try to get through the queue as fast as we can. It’s a bit hot in the summer because the ceiling fans can only do so much, but we are used to it by now. People from the nearby shops often drop by just to say hello. It is a very human way to handle money and accounts, away from the cold feel of a big corporate headquarters. We have been here for a good while and people know where to find us.
