Calico Metal Industries Private Limited is located in the A-1 section of the Haji Allarakha Building. We are right on 9th Khetwadi Lane, which is one of those narrow Mumbai streets where you really have to know where you’re going. The building itself is quite old and has a lot of character, though the stairs can be a bit of a climb. Inside, we deal with all sorts of metal parts and industrial materials. It’s a tight squeeze because we try to keep as much stock as possible on hand for our regulars. The sounds of the neighborhood—scooters, vendors, and people talking—drift in through the windows all day. It’s a busy environment where we’re constantly measuring, cutting, or packing things up for transport. We don't have a lot of room for a fancy reception area, so you’ll usually find us working right alongside the materials. It gets quite humid in the monsoon season, and we have to be extra careful to keep everything dry and in good shape. Most of our neighbors are also in some kind of trade, so there’s a sense of everyone just getting on with their jobs. We’ve been in this lane for a long time, and we’ve seen businesses come and go, but we just keep doing what we do with our metals and our regular routine, making sure the orders are ready when they need to be for the clients.
