Working out of the Haji Allarakha Building is what we do every day. You can find us at A-1 on 9th Khetwadi Lane, which is usually a mess of traffic and people moving things. Calico Metal Inds. Pvt. Ltd. isn't some corporate giant with a glass lobby. It’s just a small team of us in a crowded office that smells like old paper and industrial metal. Most of the time, the hallways are blocked with stock and we have to squeeze past to get to our desks. The noise from the street is something you just get used to after a week or two. We don't have time for fancy mission statements or anything like that. We just try to get the orders loaded onto the tempos without blocking the whole lane. Sometimes the rain leaks in a bit near the window, and we just move the boxes and keep going. It’s a simple life, mostly spent on the phone or checking the stacks in the back. Our furniture is old, and the ceiling fans make a clicking sound, but the work gets done regardless. Most of the people around here have been in the metal trade for generations. We fit right in with the dust and the constant clatter of the neighborhood. There isn't much room for ego when you're sweating in a Khetwadi warehouse, so we just stay practical and keep moving.
