Cafe Military has been standing at 17 Meadows Street in the Fort area for a very long time. If you walk inside, you will see the same wooden tables and chairs that have been here for decades. The floors are a bit worn down from all the boots and shoes that have walked across them over the years. We are not a modern cafe with bright lights and fancy coffee machines. We have big ceiling fans to keep the air moving and we serve our food on heavy plates. The menu is pretty much the same as it was years ago, with the usual items like bun maska and tea that people expect from a place like ours. During the lunch hour, it gets very loud with all the office workers from the surrounding buildings coming in for a quick meal. We don't use computers to take orders; we just write things down on small pads of paper and call out to the kitchen. The staff here has been around for ages and they know where everything is kept. We open the shutters early in the morning to get the tea brewing and the bread ready. It is a simple way of doing things, but it works for us and the people who come here. We don't have any interest in turning this into a big chain or changing how the place feels. It's just a local spot in Fort that stays the same.
