Makand Wala Estate is where we spend our days. It’s in Appa Pada, right across from the old khadi machine in Kurar Village. Brahamani Steel Engineering has been here for a bit, tucked away in Malad East. The estate is always humming with the sound of machinery and the smell of industrial work. We do a lot of engineering and steel fabrication in our unit. It’s a messy job, really. There’s always bits of metal on the floor and the heavy smell of welding smoke in the air. We use various tools to cut and shape the steel based on what’s needed for the day. It’s not a quiet place to work, but we like the pace of it. Sometimes the neighbors come by to chat, or a delivery truck gets stuck in the narrow lane outside, which causes a bit of a stir with everyone shouting. We mostly just focus on the metalwork. It’s heavy lifting and requires a lot of patience when things don't line up perfectly the first time. The weather in Malad can be pretty humid, so we end up drinking a lot of tea to stay going throughout the afternoon. We aren't a big corporate office; we’re just a bunch of guys who know how to work with steel and iron. We keep the shop open and take the jobs as they come, making sure we stay busy in the Appa Pada area. It's tough work but it's what we know.
