Big Cinemas

If you are in Ghatkopar, you probably know where we are. We spend our days around the smell of popcorn and the sound of movie trailers playing in the lobby. Running a cinema is mostly about timing. We have to get the halls cleaned up between shows, which is always a bit of a rush. People leave behind all sorts of things like empty soda cups and popcorn bags under the seats. We walk through with flashlights and trash bags as soon as the credits start rolling. The projectors need a lot of looking after so the picture stays clear on the big screen. In the ticket booth, it is just constant talking to people and checking seat maps. Some big movie releases make the lobby feel really small because so many people show up at once. We handle the snacks, the tickets, and making sure the air conditioning is actually working in the middle of summer. It is a lot of standing on your feet for long hours. The night shifts can get pretty late, especially if there is a midnight screening. We just try to keep the floors from getting too sticky and make sure the lines move along. It is just a local movie house where people come to spend a couple of hours in the dark. We just keep the reels turning and the lights dimming on schedule every day.
