Bhaktivedanta Swami Mission School

Juhu is a busy part of Mumbai, and being located at Hare Krishna Land means we are right in the middle of everything. You can feel the sea breeze coming off the coast, but you also hear the constant honking of the traffic outside. Our school is part of this big community here. It’s a unique spot because there’s so much going on around the temple and the nearby shops. The kids come in through the gates every morning, navigating the crowded sidewalks of Juhu. We don't have a massive field, but we use every corner of the space we have. The hallways are narrow and always filled with the sound of voices. We focus on the daily routine of classes and exams. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes when everyone is moving between rooms. The staff is a mix of people who have lived in Mumbai their whole lives and some who are newer. We deal with the monsoon rains every year, which usually means some leaks and damp walls, but we just get on with it. There’s a certain energy here because of the location. It isn't a quiet or suburban kind of school. It’s an urban place where we try to give the kids a bit of a steady environment amidst the chaos of the city. We spend our time teaching and making sure the kids stay on track.
