Our place at No. 25/33 Ardeshir Dady Street is right in the thick of things near Alankar Cinema. This part of the city is old and the streets are narrow, so getting large metal deliveries in and out can be a real headache. Manoj Metal Corporation has been at this address for a long time. The shop is filled with the smell of iron and copper, and there’s always a fine layer of metal dust on the surfaces. We handle all sorts of metal sheets and rods. It’s heavy work and our hands are usually stained by the end of the day. There’s no air conditioning, just the big open doors to the street and whatever breeze we can get. The noise from the surrounding workshops is constant—hammers hitting metal and the sound of saws cutting through pipes. We don't have a website or a fancy showroom. People come here because they know we have what they need in the stacks of inventory we keep. We talk to the other shop owners on the street every day, mostly about the weather or the difficulty of finding parking. It’s a gritty, honest way to make a living. We keep track of everything in big ledgers and on scraps of paper. It’s been this way for years, and we don’t see much reason to change how we do things. It’s just the way metal business works in this neighborhood.
