We’ve been here at the Mandvi Police Officers Quarters for a while now. It’s on the first floor, right on Mohammad Ali Road in the Masjid area. If you know Mumbai, you know how loud and busy this street gets every single day. There’s always someone shouting or a truck backing up. Our office, Akruti Nirman Ltd., isn’t anything fancy. It’s just a place where we get the building and construction work sorted out. Sometimes the fans make a bit of noise and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We spend most of our time looking at plans or talking to contractors on the phone. Being near the police quarters means it’s a bit of a landmark, so people don’t usually get lost trying to find us. We don’t have a big reception area or anything like that. Just some desks, some old files, and a lot of tea being drunk throughout the afternoon. Most of the guys here have been working together for years, so we just get on with things without making much of a fuss. It’s a bit cramped when everyone is in at once, especially with all the paper everywhere, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the projects are actually happening. It’s a lot of practical work, not much sitting around thinking about big ideas. Just everyday business.
